Adoption is the new Pregnant

Category: FamilyProgress Comments: No comments

This will be another quick “rundown post” because so much has happened since our last update. Between numerous details and crazy kiddos I’ll just give you the main points. Please excuse any incomplete thoughts, type-o’s, etc. To be honest, I’m a bit amazed that I’m actually going to attempt writing this update!

To quickly describe what these last few months have been like, I have likened it to the “morning sickness” part of pregnancy. The days are long and sometimes figuratively sickening -BUT- you get through it by remembering the miracle of life waiting for you at the end...

Let me walk you through our quick timeline:

November 13th: We reapplied to All God’s Children International (on Orphan Sunday!), knowing that they will receive our documents the following morning of the 14th. This date is significant because our last piece of eligibility was achieved with Owen turning 6 months old.

November 14th: Happy Halfy, Owen!

November 18th: We were approved for the Burundi program! We gathered our 56 page contract and scheduled our conference call for finalization.

November 21st: Applied for our home study with Bethany Christian Services.

November 23rd: We were approved for home study with Bethany Christian Services!

So now what, you ask?

We have our AGCI hour long conference call sche...

Puzzle Campaign Totals & More

Category: Progress Comments: No comments

Well, today marks the end of our 30 day “Puzzle Campaign” and the results are in!

We raised a total of $1,675.00… bringing up our total 2016 earnings to $4,025!!!

This of course doesn’t include offset costs we have in preparation of each fundraiser/PayPal deductions/website costs, but all in all, we are so encouraged that we are only half way through the year and have earned so much.

So let’s talk about what’s next.

Since I didn’t make as much as I was wanting to this fundraiser, I have an idea for one more that should push us over that $20K hump (we are already skating on the line of it)...

Beautiful Sanctification: MAJOR CHANGES AHEAD!

“She will be saved through childbearing.”

1 Timothy 2:15

“Motherhood is sanctifying.”

Just a few weeks into my new normal of parenting two, this phrase offered by a friend stuck with me. It was almost a revelation of sorts. Day in and out I’m confronted with areas of weakness and have to mentally step outside my circumstances to grow. Life is filled with shot-gun prayers asking for guidance, patience, endurance, strength, courage, creativity… and sometimes a third arm (because really, what mom of littles has never once desired one temporarily?). Maybe because my marriage has been mostly easy God is using motherhood to refine the matters of my heart that you guys don’t see. Don’t get me wrong, I am in L.O.V.E...

“Wait for the Lord; be STRONG and take heart, and wait for the Lord!”

Psalm 27:14

You guys. I can hardly believe that it’s already been 2 months since our little man arrived on the scene! Just five days after my last post, to be exact. Whew, it’s no joke when they say going from 1 to 2 kids isn’t for the faint of heart. Being “out-numbered” is a character trait that I’m certainly growing into, but I still wouldn’t trade it for anything. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us during this transition. Not only am I getting used to being alone with two littles, but it’s also been a slow road to recovery. I have been so thankful for the tribe that has surrounded me with endless love and acts of service.

With the close of my 2 month “maternity leave,” it’s time for our next fundraiser!...

God working amidst my chaos

“All honor and glory be unto thee, O Father!”

Alright, with countdown to baby Owen around the corner and SO MUCH left to do on the house, I’m going to keep this post short and to the point. My intention isn’t to rob any of the praise that the Lord is due, but rather to be a good steward of the time I have left. Average bedtime has been 2 am trying to get everything settled… If only I could be pregnant for one more month!!!

First, let’s go back and visit the yard sale we had in April. We actually ended up making more than we originally had posted- $500 more to be exact! A sweet couple from church reached out to us and said they had nothing to contribute, but that they would send out a text to some friends to see if they wanted to help us out...

And the numbers are in….!

If you’ve been keeping up with us lately, you know that our family has been in a crossfire of equal parts marathon and circus.

Moving, self-renovating, a 2 year old running around, 33 weeks pregnant, Jordan’s working 2 jobs (spring soccer season), and we thought– hey isn’t this the PERFECT time to have our “Yard Sale Fundraiser?!”

So here are the VERY quick updates:

The house is coming along BEAUTIFULLY! We have had so many precious, helping hands in our new home that I could cry. Since I’m pregnant, I’ve been limited in my contribution to the actual labor and have instead been the designated gofer. {And I have to brag, I have a pretty fantastic 2 year old. She has spent hours in the car and every kind of home improvement store you can imagine...

Progress: We bought a house!!

I want to start by thanking everyone who has been praying for us the past two years -specifically- when it came to our house search. As many of you know, Jordan and I have been working hard to pay down our fertility debt, and homeownership was not in the cards until we landed in that “final stretch payoff.” With the help of your prayers, Dave Ramsey and our families, I’m not sure that we would be able to pay it off as quickly as we have. God is good and we are thankful for His provision as we sought various means for extra income. And yes- I am saying that sometimes The Lord provides by giving you opportunities to WORK and SACRIFICE (not just receive)!

Before I go on, here’s my shameless plug for Dave Ramsey. You guys, if you feel overwhelmed by credit card/medical/car/house/etc...

The details of our little man

It is finally beginning to sink in… And I truly didn’t think that I would utter these words again, but:

The due date has been set for May 19, 2016 and we could not be more shocked/excited.

Like with his big sister, it wasn’t some simple occurrence. The Lord has had his fingerprints all over this one yet again, and because of that, we would like to share the story with you.

This goes back to summer 2008. I had been studying at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel and, before returning home, a group of friends and I decided to take a quick trip to Cairo, Egypt.

While I did check a major item off my bucket list, I ended up coming home with more than a camera full of memories...

Fundraiser Update!

“How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.” Psalm 31:19

The Lord has been so good to us through the outstretch of His body! We had about 75 people gather together for one awesome night resulting in almost $1,300.00 raised for our adoption!!!

And the best part is, we still have a few more pledged gifts coming!

How faithful and gracious is our God?!

A big shout out to our volunteers, band members and tech guys who selflessly gave up HOURS of their time to make this all come together. Jordan and I certainly wouldn’t have been able to accomplish a shadow of what we did without you.

We still have a LONG way to go, but our hearts are encouraged by the generosity of those with pocke...
